Installing Aspen

Here are some instructions for getting Aspen Plus and Aspen Dynamics to work on your (PC, not Mac) notebook computer at home. These should work, but I can't offer any guarantees. They did work for the students in 2005-2006.

You will require Windows XP Professional. Keep in mind that these instructions are case-sensitive:

  1. Go to the Library (EWFM)
  2. Connect to the "lu" wireless network or plug into a RJ-45/ethernet socket
  3. Open "Command Prompt" (in Programs→Accessories)
  4. Type:

     > y: \\multi02.cc.lehigh.edu\apps

    and hit [return]
  5. If your userid is abc123 and your e-mail address is abs123@lehigh.edu, enter abc123@ad.lehigh.edu when prompted.
  6. Open "My Computer" and go to y:\lib95
  7. Double-click "Prism.bat"
(If you don't see the extension, go to Tools→Folder Options from the Explorer window and then click "View." Make sure you unclick "Hide extensions for know file types." You should see Prism.bat now.)
  8. Go to y:\lib\pwc and double-click index.html Internet Explorer will open.
  9. Find Aspen in the list as you did in class and install it.

As long as you are connected to the internet (via your DSL, for instance), you will be able to run Aspen. It will automatically seek Lehigh's "key" by connecting to the Lehigh license server. Keep in mind that we have a limited number of licenses, so be kind and shut down your process when you are not developing, running or analyzing your simulations or to prevent licenses from being used up needlessly.

Good luck! If you can't get it to work, you can always install and use Aspen on any Lehigh machine. You can always access D125 Iacocca with your card key.
